A good place to start is to see what previous engineers have gone on to do, based on the annual survey of graduates from UK universities.
Of course, you don’t have to do what they do, but if you are looking for ideas, try:
- What do graduates to report (PDF) – annual report from Prospects Luminate includes separate information for each of the four engineering disciplines.
- What do Edinburgh Graduates do? – data for Edinburgh graduates, by School and level.
- Engineering Alumni Profiles – read about graduate stories, tagged by discipline, degree level, career stage and working in/outside engineering.
A great way to browse for inspiration is to use the Alumni tab on LinkedIn for the University of Edinburgh. You can filter by subject. This is useful in that as well as showing current students and recent graduates, you can also see engineers further in their careers.
If you aren’t sure how to use LinkedIn effectively, or don’t have an account, there is advice on how to use it in Become Professional.
